Abstract

1369639 Producing silver-coated bodies SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 30 Nov 1971 [2 Dec 1970 (2)] 55532/71 Heading C7F [Also in Divisions B1 and C2] A process for producing metallic silver deposits on surfaces of bodies, in particular on the surfaces of porous refractory catalyst supports so as to prepare supported silver catalysts, characterized in that the surfaces concerned are at first coated with at least one organic amine and an aqueous solution of a silver salt of a carboxylic acid, the coating then being dried and the silver salt being reduced to metallic silver by heating the amine present acting as reducing agent. The silver is produced in the form of discontinuous, substantially uniformly spaced, discrete, substantially hemispherical particles of diameters less than 10, 000 Angstrom units. A number of suitable catalyst support materials are referred to including aluminium oxides and charcoal.
