Abstract

1367793 Balanced flue arrangements; burner air supplies MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 27 Oct 1971 [5 Nov 1970 (4) 9 April 1971 26 April 1971] 50036/71 Headings F4J and F4T In an induced draught combustion apparatus having a burner in a casing, an air inlet passage communicating with outside of a house, a flue outlet extending to the outside atmosphere and a motorized fan at the terminal end of the flue outlet passage, the P-Q characteristic of the fan is such that curves representing extreme values of the P-Q characteristic intersect the curves representing the frictional losses in the system plotted against the excess air ratio for maximum and minimum possible total lengths of the passages within an area bounded by the ordinates representing excess air ratios of 1À2 and 2À5. The apparatus, which may be a boiler, has an exhaust outlet 14 and air inlet 13 connected to a common outside terminal 22, and an induced draught fan 24 near the flue outlet. Beyond the fan, the flue pipe 17 lies coaxially within the air inlet 16, Fig. 3, and has a flared nozzle 21 and a windshield 23 spaced from its end. The terminal has a screen 22. The inlet 25 of the fan, and outlets 30, 27, of the air duct are arranged so that one of the air outlets, and the fan inlet can be connected directly to the apparatus, the other air outlet being sealed. In a modification (Fig. 7) the air and flue ducts are arranged side by side, and a by-pass duct is arranged so that air is sucked in by the fan to cool the motor. A fan having the required characteristics gives satisfactory combustion with different kinds of gas and with flue and air inlet passages of different lengths.
