Abstract

1367718 Exhaust gas silencers GRASSOS KONINKLIJKE MACHINE FABRIEKEN NV 27 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 14184/72 Heading F1B An exhaust silencing apparatus for pressurized gas includes a silencer having a casing, a gas inlet and gas outlet formed in the casing, valve means housed within the casing between the inlet and the outlet and serving to prevent gas from flowing through the silencer until the pressure of the gas at the inlet side of the silencer reaches a predetermined level. The apparatus comprises an outer tube 1 and a concentric inner tube 3, having perforations 4 in its wall and positioned by discs 5 and 6. The disc 5 has gas inlet holes 7 and the disc 6 has gas outlet holes 8. A cap 9 fits on the end of the tube 1 and a mounting belt 11 carries a fixed washer 12 which forms an abutment for one end of a spring 13 which presses a rubber-faced valve 14 against the outlet side of disc 6. The valve 14 remains closed until the pressure in the tubes 1 and 3 has built up sufficiently to provide for a smooth gas flow past the valve and out through the apertures 10 in the cap 9. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) a perforated tube 17 extends into a bore 16 which receives the exhaust gas from an air-operated tool. The end 19 of the tube is closed by the conical end 22 of a valve 20, having a cylindrical body containing perforations 21. As the gas-pressure in the tube 17 reaches a predetermined value, the valve 20 opens against a spring and gas passes through perforations 21 and then out through a passage 25.
