Abstract

The valve comprises an arrangement of several horizontal thin annular discs around the valve stem area to reduce the flow rate without the noise usually associated with high pressure drops. The centre part of the arrangement has a hollow perforated cylinder within which is a piston. The piston is moved by conventional pneumatic means and in its lowest position the valve is shut. Around the perforated cylinder and at right angles to it are the annular discs. The fluid flows, therefore, up towards the base of the piston, through the holes in the cylinder and then spreads out between the discs and so passes through the valve.
