Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of noise by providing multiple grooves in the fluid flow direction to the outer circumference of the valve stem inserted in the valve seat to make the change of enthalpy of fluid uniform.
CONSTITUTION: The valve stem 3 is put in the cylindrical valve seat 2. The stem is provided with a conical surface a which cooperates with the conical face of the seat in cutting off the steam flow, multiple grooves b which are spirally formed on the outer circumference of cylinder, and a guide face c which contacts with the valve seat to prevent the vibration of the stem. The groove is formed so that its cross-sectional area is made gradually greater according to the volume change depending on the pressure change of flowing fluid to make the velocity of fluid constant. Thus the fluid flows on expanding itself with a constant velocity, and is gradually decompressed. Since the fluid flows at a controlled velocity and its enthalpy is uniformly changed, the production of noise and flashing can be prevented.
