Abstract

1367341 Inflatable lifejackets BEAUFORT (AIR-SEA) EQUIPMENT Ltd 9 March 1972 [11 March 1971] 6639/71 Heading B7U [Also in Division A3] In a lifesaving appliance the enclosure 12 for an inflatable member 13 includes two longitudinal flaps 15, 16 the free edges of which have secured along them pieces of touch-and-close material 17, 19 respectively. In use the effect of slip-stream force on conventional ejection of the wearer from an aircraft is to urge the joined edges of the flaps together against the wearer's body and retain the enclosure in completed state, whilst the effect of internal pressure on inflation is to cause the touch-and-close materials to peel apart. In the embodiment shown the outer flap 16 has an additional piece of material 18 stitched along its edge in folded-over relationship and this piece 18 also has stitched to it along its edge another additional piece 18a to the one side of which the piece 19 of touch-andclose material is secured.
