Description
June 6, 1967 L.. l.. BmCKNER FASTENING DEVICE Filed Nov. 16, 1964 United States Patent O 3,323,182 FASTENING DEVICE Lillian L. Briclmer, Bellflower, Calif., assgnor of one-half to Lloyd F. Silvers Fitted Nov. 16, 1964, Ser. No. 411,494 3 Claims. (Cl. 24-73) My invention relates to improvements in `fastening device, and particularly the application to the use of the attachment of a sanitary napkin to the body of the wearer; and the objects of my invention are, rst, to provide a fastening device which will secure attach the ends of a catamenial napkin or the like during use to the body of the wearer; second, to provide a fastening device which may be easily stored when not in use and is of the disposable type after use; third, to provide a fastening device permitting its attachment to the body by pressure sensitive adhesive means of garments suitable to be held in place by means of a safety pin or the like; fourth, to provide a fastening device having a storage compartment for a safety pin or the like concealed from view when not in use; fth, to provide a fastening device which is easily and inexpensively manufactured and easily and quickly deployed for use.
Additional objects, together with further advantages derived in utilizing the present invention, will become apparent from the following detailed description thereof taken together with the accompanying drawing forming part of the specification, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of my device exposing a portion of the pressure sensitive adhesive surface;
FIGURE 2 is a plan view aof my device exposing a safety pin stored between layers of fabric;
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of my device showing the fastening device in use; and
FIGURE 4 is a vertical sectional view of my device taken on line 4-4 of FIGURE 3.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My invention comprises a flat disc, 10, of suitable material such as fabric, soft thermoplastic material, or the like, one side of which is coated with pressure sensitive adhesive, 11, with a removable stiff protective covering, 12, made of paper or the like.
A substantially rectangular shaped pocket, 13, is provided on the face side of the disc, 10, having an H-shaped covering comprising two flaps, 14, 15, of equal size cornpletely covering the pocket, 13, when the device is not 1n use.
In the center of the pocket parallel to the long side of the flaps, a folded piece of at tape, 16, is affixed to form a loop, into which a safety pin, 17, or the like, may be removably attached.
In operation, pressure is applied below each flap simultaneously to the disc in a downwardly bending motion permitting the flaps to move outwardly and to expose the safety pin, 17. The protective covering, 12, is then removed from the pressure sensitive adhesive and the device is attached to the body of the wearer in the position in which it is desired to be used. A catamenial napkin, stocking, or other garment may then be attached to the safety pin or similar device and held securely in place.
ICC
When no longer required, the safety pin may be detached from the loop and the disc disposed of.
Instead of using only one disc, a cover disc may be aflixed to the flat disc, 10, having an H-shaped cut extending entirely through the disc and disposed above the center of the safety pin, 17, and positioned flat against the face of the flat disc, 10, and having outwardly movable liaps. In this manner, two discs may be used, eliminating the requirement of a pocket; however, only the cover disc should be provided with an H-shaped cut.
It is understood that various forms of my invention may be used or utilized embodying the principles of my invention, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1, A fastening device of the class described, comprising a at disc of fabric type material having one side coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive, and having a substantially rectangular shaped pocket provided on the other side, a removable stiff protective covering applied to the adhesive, two flaps of substantially equal and rectangular size having one long side attached to one long side of the pocket and being integrally connected to said disc, a folded piece of flat tape forming a loop affixed to said disc in the center of said pocket and parallel to the long side of said aps, and attachment means removably affixed to said tape.
2. A fastening device of the class described, comprising a disc having one side coated with a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive, a removable stiff protective covering applied to the adhesive, a folded piece of at tape alxed to the other side of said disc to form a loop, attachment means removably aiixed to the tape, and means covering said tape and attachment means including an opening through which the attachment means may be exposed.
3. In a fastening device of the class described, the combination of a llat disc having one side coated with a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive and attachment means axed to the other side with a flexible cover covering said other side and having an H-shaped cut in the portion of said cover which lies over said attachment means, said cover being attached to said other side except at the region of said H-shaped cut, said H-shaped cut permitting the removal of portions of said cover and the consequent exposure of said attachment means.
