Abstract

1367014 Electrophonic musical instruments OPSONAR ORGAN CORP 20 Nov 1972 [24 April 1972] 53545/72 Heading G5J [Also in Division H1] In a switch assembly for the keyboard of an electronic musical instrument, a conductive strip 26, Fig. 2, of resilient material such as silicone rubber impregnated with carbon is deformed to give a progressively increasing area of engagement with wire contacts 22, 24 mounted on a support base 28. The strip 26 is permanently connected as one input to an amplifier (18), Fig. 1 (not shown), and is supported above an apertured separator plate 30 by means of an earthed resilient conductive strip 38 of similar material to which it is fixed by a double-sided adhesive insulating tape 40. The strips 26 are progressively rolled edgewise on to the wires 22, 24 by leaf springs 45, Fig. 3, fixed to pivotedkeys 34 whereby the full width of the strips 26 is not engaged until the keys 34 and springs 45 are fully depressed. The progressive engagement is stated to reduce microphonic noise. In a modification the switches are actuated by chord buttons (70) Fig. 10 (not shown) which depress the ends of spring (76) cut integrally in a spring strip (78) and mounted above the assembly. The contacts may be lubricated with graphite to reduce sticking and consequent microphonic noise.
