Abstract

1396467 Retractive switches MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 23 Aug 1973 [20 Feb 1973 (2) 20 March 1973 27 March 1973 29 March 1973] 39943/73 Heading H1N A keyboard switch, suitable for a desktop electronic calculator, for example, comprises at least a row of buttons 21 and tubular resilient means 23 disposed such that depression of a button deforms the corresponding portion of said tubular means to bring conductor means into contact with electrode means 31 fixed on a printed-circuit board 32 and thereby close a circuit, and release of the button causes it to be retracted by the inherent resilience of the tubular means 23 to open the said circuit. As shown the conductor means comprises a flexible sheet 28 loaded with conductive powder, for example, carbon black, and this is depressed by semispherical projections 27 on buttons 21 acting via resilient synthetic plastics tubular member 23. Contact bounce is stated to be prevented. An insulating spacer 30 having as many apertures 29 as there are buttons 21 is interposed as shown. The tubular means 23 may be held in notches (24), Fig. 4, not shown) in a frame (20) accommodating several rows of buttons 21. The tubular means 23 may be of various crosssections (Figs. 6a to 6d) or may be integral with an insulating spacer sheet (36, Figs. 9a and 9b). The tubular member (34, Fig. 7, not shown) may contain conductive substance in whole or in parts, thereby avoiding the use of the separate conductive sheet 28; it may be formed with integral projections (35, Fig. 8, not shown) to avoid the need of the separate insulating spacer sheet 30.
