Abstract
1366889 Electromagnetic contactor CABLEFORM Ltd 20 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 45709/70 Heading H1N In order to provide a rolling or wiping action between contacts, an increased contact gap for a given armature travel whilst maintaining an adequate contact pressure, and allow the incorporation of magnetic arc blow out devices, a plunger armature contactor having a fixed contact 12 which co-operates with a moving contact 11 mounted on one end of a conductive strip 10 is so designed that on energization, the strip 10 moves from the position marked 4 to the position marked 3 (Fig. 2) under the influence of springs (not shown), to the position 2 (Fig. 1) in which the contacts 11, 12 close and finally to the position 1 (Fig. 1) under continued movement of the armature along line F, and on de-energization springs (not shown) acting along line F<SP>1</SP> move the strip 10 from the position marked 1 to the position marked 2 whereupon an L-shaped projection 14 of the strip 10 is arrested in its upward movement by a stop E so that the strip 10 is forced to pivot about stop 4 until it is arrested by stop B. A braid 15 connects strip 10 to stop B which also acts as a terminal. In Fig. 3 (not shown) stop E is formed as a contact and co-operating strip projection 14 carries a contact so that a change-over switching action is provided. In the contactor shown in Fig. 4 plunger armature 22 is coupled to strip 10 by an insulating collar 24 which is biased upwards by springs 25. A bowed blade 29 holds the strip 10 against collar 24. An arc-chute assembly (33), 34 and blow out magnets (35, 36) are provided on opposite sides of strip 10.
