Abstract

1366483 Windscreen cleaning systems OTTER CONTROLS Ltd and J C TAYLOR 7 Sept 1971 [8 June 1970] 27657/70 Heading A4F A vehicle windscreen cleaning apparatus comprises an electric washer pump motor 4, an electric wiper motor, a manually operable switch 5 controlling the motor 4, and a heater for a temperature sensitive element 3, which, a predetermined delay period after the heater is energized, closes a switch 8, 9, 10, controlling the wiper motor and re-opening when the heater is de-energized. The element 3 is bi-metallic and heated by current passing therethrough and by an auxiliary heater 11, or alternatively by a single heating element 211 Fig.2 (not shown). The wiper motor is energized on closure of the switch 8, 9, 10, or alternatively is energized simultaneously with the washer motor 4 if a conductor 12 is provided connecting the switch 5 and the wiper motor. The switch 8, 9, 10 opens with a delay after the opening of the switch 5, during which delay the wiper motor continues to operate whilst the washer motor 4 is de-energized. An independent manually operated wiper switch is provided whereby the wiper motor may be operated at either of two speeds without operation of the washer.
