Abstract
An apparatus for the intermittent operation of windscreen wipers has a thermosensitive switching device comprising a bimetallic strip (5) with a pair of switching contacts (12, 13) that open and close the circuit to a heater winding (6) for the strip, and in this way generate a cyclic operation of the contacts. An electromagnetic relay has a contact (9) for switching the wiper motor on and off and is operated by the switching contacts of the thermosensitive device which also open and close the circuit to the relay coil (3). One of said pair of switching contacts is insulated from but attached to the pivoted switching armature (4) of the relay by the bimetal 5 or directly thereon and the other is fixed or on a fixed bimetal (not shown). The movement of the armature on deenergisation of the relay can thus be arranged to augment the opening movement of the pair of contacts initiated by the heating of the bimetallic strip. <IMAGE>
