Abstract

A temperature-sensitive switch for monitoring an electrically heated appliance comprises a movable contact (4) mounted on one end of a resilient contact carrier (2) which is secured at its other end to an insulating switch mounting (1), a fixed contact (5) secured to the switch mounting and normally engaged by the movable contact (4) to connect the appliance to an electric current source and at least one snap-over bimetallic plate (10, 16) operable on the contact carrier to shift the movable contact (4) out of engagement with the fixed contact (5) and so break the supply circuit to the appliance when the temperature of the latter reaches a predetermined value. Two bimetallic plates (10, 16) may be disposed on opposite sides of the contact carrier (2), the lower plate (16) snapping over at a higher temperature than the other (10) and not returning to its origin; position after snapping whereby the contacts (4, 5) remain open. The bimetallic plate may engage a lug bent up from the contact carrier and may be secured against lateral movement by lugs on the contact carrier. <IMAGE>
