Abstract
948,935. Thermal switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. Feb. 24, 1960 [Feb. 26, 1959], No. 6543/60. Heading H2B. A switch comprises a housing formed of two heat and electrically conductive members 3, 5 separated by an insulating member 13 with an aperture 15. A bi-metal strip 19 having a snap-acting dished portion 25 is connected to member 3 and carries a contact 17 co-operating with the inner surface of the other member 5. The contact pressure is adjusted during assembly by moving member 3 longitudinally relatively to member 5 into the required position before an adhesive joining and sealing the members 3, 5 and 13 has set. Alternatively, or additionally, the member 5 may be formed with a dimple co-operating with contact 17, Fig. 7 (not shown). The switch is intended for use in the windings of a motor and the strip 19 may be heated by the current through it or by heat conducted from the windings.
