Abstract
1365946 Pressure vessel lead-in devices; bushing insulators NATIONAL FORGE CO 14 Oct 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 47922/71 Headings H2E and H2C A device for taking electric power through the wall 10<1> of a pressure vessel comprises a rod 36 of highly electrically conductive, but soft, material such as copper, surrounded by an insulating sleeve 38. Attached to the end of the rod is a member 40, through which the current passes, and which distributes the force from the pressurized fluid to the wall 10<1>, thus relieving the rod 36 of stress. Member 40 is of hard, lower conductivity, material such as steel. It is insulated from the wall by a ceramic disc 48. Between the disc and the wall is a further metallic member 46, which has a reduced diameter when it bears on the wall, in order to minimize transmission of stresses to disc 48 when the wall bends. The pressurized fluid is sealed in by 0- rings 50, 54. In an alternative embodiment, for moderate pressures only, (Fig. 1, not shown) member 46 is absent, and the disc (28), which is of plastics, bears directly on the wall of the vessel.
