Abstract
1365670 Hydrodynamic brakes VOITH TURBO KG 5 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 26695/73 Heading F2E A hydrodynamic brake, having a stator 4, a rotor 1, and a working chamber 24 of circular cross-section in the shape of a torus, has slidable flow obstructions which move into the working chamber between blades 6 of the stator when the brake is filled with air and are retracted during braking when the chamber is filled with liquid, the obstructions comprising members 10 slidable along their longitudinal axes parallel or approximately parallel to the blades and disposed only in the radially outer zone of the blade pockets. The automatic operation of each member 10 is controlled by a spring 12 which compresses under the back pressure of the liquid in the working chamber during braking. The obstructions have a circular or pocket-shaped crosssection and may be normal to the brake axis. A chamber 11 into which each obstruction retracts is connected to the liquid supply 7 so that when air is removed, no pressure acts against spring compression. Figure 6 shows an obstruction 18 on a spindle 17 retracting into a chamber 11<SP>1</SP> again with pressure compensating passages 21, 22.
