Abstract
1,266,090. Hydrodynamic brakes. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 10 Sept., 1970 [12 Sept., 1969], No. 43283/70. Heading F2E. An hydrodynamic brake has coaxial, counterrotating impellers 4, 5 with vanes 6 between which is positioned a stator 7 having flow passages 10, 11 directing fluid flow from the radially outer section of each impeller to the radially inner section of the other. Passages 10, 11 are half as large in cross-sectional area at their outlets as at their inlet ends. The impellers 4, 5 may be axially movable towards and away from the stator 7 to adjust the braking force by altering the size of outlet openings 8, 9.
