Abstract

1324991 Full-face disc brakes DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 3 Sept 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 43864/69 Heading F2E A multi-disc brake assembly for an aircraft comprises a plurality of stators 3, 3a, 3b and rotors 5, a plurality of (e.g. twelve) spaced pistoncylinder actuators 9, and thrust transmission means 10 for transmitting thrust from the actuators 9 to the stator 36 which thrust transmission means comprises two concentric annuli 11, 12 interconnected by deformable connecting means 13. As shown in Fig. 1 the first annulus 11 is axially slidably keyed on a torque tube 2, the connecting means 13 is in the form of a frusto-conical metal web and the second annulus 12 is connected to a third annulus 16 by a deformable connecting means 17 which annulus 16 engages the stator member 3b. The piston cylinder actuators 9 pass through openings in the web and in normal operation fluid is supplied to six of the twelve actuators (the other six being for emergency operation), the first annulus 11 is moved towards the stator 3b and via the connecting means 13, 17 and the annulus 12, the annulus 16 is moved to bring the stators 3b, 3, 3a into contact with the rotors 5: the stators 3, 3a, 3b are slidably axially keyed on the torque tube 2 and the rotors 5 are axially slidably keyed at their outer periphery to a wheel for rotation therewith. An annular stop 7 is provided. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the annulus 16 is replaced by two annuli formed by the ends (33, 34) of V-shaped thrust ring (32) located by the second annulus (30). In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) the second annulus (41) acts directly on the stator (42). In the embodiment of Fig. 5 there are two second annuli 51a, 51b acting directly on the stator. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 the second annulus 64 is keyed to the torque tube 65 and the third annulus 61 acts on the stator, there being two deformable connecting means 62, 63.
