Abstract
1365315 Matrix displays OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 6 Aug 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 37007/71 Heading G5C [Also in Division H1] Display apparatus comprises a gas discharge display panel having a pair of identical rectangular plates 50, 52 joined together by sealant 54 with their long axes crossing and conductor arrays on each plate extending beyond the sealant; a potential source supplying periodic sustaining voltage and control pulses; and selection and addressing circuitry to apply the control pulses connected to both ends of the conductors. The circuits are described in Specification 1,364,686 and include an array of diode-resistor pairs and sustain voltage by-pass diodes. Pulses are supplied by pulse transformers, by solid state pulsing circuits or by a hybrid combination of both. The circuit components may be mounted in strip assemblies each with a common header on one side of the strip and bonding pads comprising solder beads or gold balls on the other. The strips may have alumina substrates. Outside the sealant 54 conductors may be interconnected by crossconductors 76 ... 79. Connections are made via holes 61, 62 ... in the insulation layer covering the conductors by filling the holes with resistive paste. Alternatively diodes may be placed in the holes.
