Abstract

1364982 Dopa DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 30 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 15224/72 Heading C2C L(-) - 3,4 - Dihydroxyphenylalanine is prepared by preparing a saturated aqueous solution of DL-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine at a temperature above 50‹ C., cooling the saturated aqueous solution to a lower temperature which is not below 45‹ C. to form a supersaturated aqueous solution, seeding the supersaturated aqueous solution with crystals of L(-)-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine to cause L(-)-3,4-dhydroxyphenylalanine to crystallize out of the supersaturated aqueous solution, and separating off the crystals of L(-)-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine thus formed from the aqueous solution before more than 95% of the theoretical quantity thereof has crystallized out.
