Abstract

1364790 Valves M L SHEWARD 21 Nov 1972 53845/72 Heading F2V A gas regulator comprises a four-part body 16, 14, 18 and 20 wherein a main valve 46, inlet port 24 and outlet port 26 are included in the part 16, a resilient diaphragm 116 is disposed between parts 14 and 18 and a chamber 74 in the part 14 accommodates motion transmitting mechanism 62, 82, 96 between the main valve member and the diaphragm and communicates with the outlet port. An increase in pressure in the outlet and hence the chamber tends to close the main valve thus regulating the outlet gas pressure. A relief valve 98 is attached to the diaphragm and is actuated when a member 96 is held by stop brackets 112 after travelling a certain distance. The gas then escapes from the upper chamber via a vent valve 200 and a filter 210. The diaphragm is biased by a spring 164 which can be set to a required tension. The member 96 is biased to the diaphragm by a spring 158. The body parts are held together by clamping rings and the whole of the relief valve assembly can be removed from the diaphragm by the simple manipulation of pins 148. The main valve closure member comprises a resilient portion 54 bonded to a permanently magnetized steel core 56 which is attracted to a magnetic member 58 fixed to a rod 62. The closure member can thus be easily removed from the housing after removal of plugs 30 and 42. The upper chamber is permanently vented by an orifice 204 in the vent valve.
