Abstract

1,009,816. BENDIX CORPORATION. June 9, 1964 [June 28, 1963], No. 23905/64. Heading F2V. [Also in Division H4] A device for maintaining the pressure inside the housing of a diver's communicator (see Division H4) constant relatively to the water pressure outside the housing comprises, Fig. 1, a diaphragm 118 which moves and operates one or other of the tilt valves 128 or 148 on a change in the relative pressures. If the pressure outside the housing, communicated to the diaphragm through holes 152 in the end cover 106, increases relative to that in the housing, valve 128 is opened and admits compressed air from the divers supply into the interior of the housing. If the pressure outside falls relative to that in the housing, valve 148 operates and releases air from the interior of the housing, through passage 140, to the exterior of the housing. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, the tilt valves are mounted both on the same side of the diaphragm and spring 166 biases the diaphragm so that the pressure inside the housing is maintained a constant amount in excess of the ambient water pressure in order to prevent leakage of water into the housing.
