[Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A sprinkler system comprises a supply pipe 1, Fig. 1, for an extinguishing medium under pressure, a main valve 2, and a control valve 7 with an intermediate chamber 9 connected to a pressure chamber 6 containing an operating plunger 5 for the main valve, pressure in the non-activated sprinkler system being applied to an operating plunger 23 for the control valve which opens when the pressure falls to place the chamber 6 in communication with the open air and allow the main valve to be opened by the extinguishing medium. The control valve is opened by an adjustable spring 14 and also connects pipes 19 and25 to a pressure-actuated alarm. The system may also be caused to operate by turning a valve 36 to connect pipes 37 and 31 together through a throttle valve 40 and a one-way valve 41. In an alternative embodiment, the control valve is provided with a pair of diaphragms subjected to the pressure in the sprinkler system delivery pipe and the pressure in a chamber respectively.
