Abstract

1364631 Sockets for ball joints GIRLING Ltd 3 March 1972 [9 March 1971] 6377/71 Heading E2F In a socket component for a ball and socket joint, which is an integral moulding of a resilient material such as nylon or polypropylene, and comprises a generally cylindrical through portion with a part spherical portion 13 to receive a ball; two rows of projections 14, 15 define the portion 13, their inner ends having part spherical surfaces, as at 16, and the projections of one row are aligned with recesses between the projections of the other. The ball snap fits into the portion 13 and annular recesses 17 are formed around the openings of the socket to allow the projections to flex more readily to receive it.
