[Also in Group XXV] Beads and like ornamental bodies adapted to be fastened together to form a necklace, bracelet, or pendant, comprise a main or body portion 10, Fig. 3, to which a head portion 12 is joined by a neck 11, the part of the body on the side opposite the neck being formed with a socket 13 which is provided with a mouth 14 of slightly smaller diameter than the head, the relative sizes and arrangement of the parts 11-14 being such that two similarly shaped beads, at least one of which is made of resilient plastic material, can be connected together by forcing the head of one, with a snap action, through the mouth of the socket of the other, the head, neck and socket being so dimensioned as to permit of relative angular movement between the beads, with free play of the head in the socket. The beads may consist of moulded polythene. A bead of the form shown may be provided with an additional head or socket whereby it may be joined to three other beads. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein a pair of beads 20 are each provided with a pair of sockets 21, 22 located at opposite ends of a diameter to receive heads 24, 25 at the opposite ends of a stem 23, the heads being forced into the inwardly tapered mouths of the sockets with a snap action. The beads may be hollow and each formed by two moulded hemispherical portions 31, 32, Fig. 5, which are interconnected by an inwardly directed flange 33, or a series of similarly shaped projections, on the one engaging within a recess 34 in the other. Alternatively a solid bead may be formed with a deep cylindrical socket having a lipped mouth of smaller diameter than the socket. The heads may be made of conico-spherical form, comprising a conical portion with the apex directed outwardly, integral with a part spherical portion joining the neck. A plurality of freely coupled beads of the same size and forming a set may be connected to sets of different sizes to form a necklace, or a necklace may consist entirely of beads of different sizes. The beads may be made of different colours and may be multicoloured.
