Abstract
999,168. Dolls. MATTEL Inc. April 16, 1964 [Jan. 23, 1964], No. 15905/64. Heading A6S. A doll limb comprises upper and lower core members pivoted together and at the end of one member to the body of the doll, said core members being embedded in a solid elastic body in the form of a human limb. Three embodiments are described giving details of the construction of a leg. In the first embodiment the upper end of the upper half 30 of the limb 10 has a cupped end 32 to slide over a limited area of the lower part of the torso and to swing over a full range of movement thereon, the pair of limbs being held to the body by hooks 12 and a rubber ring 13. The core members are pivoted together at 43 and have interengaging teeth 41, 43, Fig. 6, with oblique side surfaces to enable the halves of the limb to be manually moved to different positions against the pressure of a spring washer 46, Fig. 4. Within the interengaging teeth are stop members 48, 49 and 51, 52 to limit the movement of the limb halves to that of a normal limb. The lower limb half is provided with a socket 62 for insertion of a supporting peg 64, Fig. 1. The said core members are mounted in a mould for a soft elastic body 60 to be formed thereabout. The core members may be made of a hard plastics material. The second embodiment differs from the first in that the upper ends 132 of the limbs are fitted with conical ends 112 which are pressed into apertures 113 in the torso 111. The two halves of the limbs are pressed together by a wire spring 134. The third embodiment has a torso 211 with inclined surfaces each set about 8 degrees out of parallel to enable the legs to be crossed as shown in Fig. 22.
