Abstract

1417407 Ball joint bearings TOKAI TRW & CO LTD 18 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 58382/72 Heading E2F In a pre-loaded type ball joint, a bearing shell 10 is formed of synthetic resin or synthetic rubber and is held between the ball 43 of a stud 40 and a casing 30 in a pre-loaded state such that the bearing shell includes a ball receiving cavity 18, the ball contacting surface of which is provided in its intermediate annular portion with a plurality of isolated lubricant retaining recesses 25. The bottom portions of the recesses are deformable towards the peripheral surface of the ball in response to an external load so as to increase the ball contacting area of the contacting surface.
