Abstract

1364009 Ignition systems TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 29 Sept 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 45034/72 Heading F1B A high frequency continuous wave ignition system for an internal-combustion engine comprises a central winding 23 through which current flow is controlled to start and stop high frequency continuous wave energy, breaker pointless means controlled by the engine shaft to provide a signal pulse having a duration proportional to a predetermined angle of rotation of the engine shaft for each cylinder of the engine and electronic means 42 for cutting off the current flow through the control winding 23 during each signal pulse. With the engine running and between sparking intervals the oscillator 16 is cut off because of the low impedance path across the control winding 23 that includes a diode 86 and a power transistor 76. When distributer rotor projections reach alignment with stator projections (not shown) a voltage signal is generated in the winding 54. It is clipped and applied to an input of a NAND gate 61. Coincidence of signals causes the output of the NAND gate to go to zero and this results in conduction of the transistor 76 being cut-off. That in turn cuts off the D. C. current in the winding 23 which starts the oscillator 16. The sparking interval with the oscillator oscillating continues until the trailing edges of the rotor projections pass out of alignment with the stator projections. Specifications 1308750 and 11323949 are referred to.
