Abstract

The system is particularly for motor vehicles, incorporating a high-tension coil. A first voltage is generated proportional to the angular discrepancy between a reference value and the variable angular setting of a rotary component driven in proportion to engine speed. A second voltage is also generated, its value being a function of engine speed. When the sum of these two voltages coincides with a threshold voltage of constant value, a control impulse to start excitation of the ignition coil is generated. This results in an overall time for the necessary, sufficient and controlled current in the coil independent of engine speed which limits current consumption at low speed, and particularly when the supply voltage is increased.
