Abstract
1363942 Furnace supports NIPPON STEEL CORP 9 Dec 1971 [25 Dec 1970] 57253/71 Heading F4B In a blast furnace supported by a ring 3 on columns 5, resilient members 7 are interposed between the ring and the columns to absorb the load on the furnace body. The members 7, which may be dish springs, may be mounted on beams 22 fixed to the columns 5, Fig. 7, and engage brackets 21 secured to the furnace body. Thrust blocks 19, 20 may be provided to prevent sideways movement of the furnace, Fig. 5, and the springs are enclosed in a casing 15, 15<SP>1</SP> to protect them from corrosion. The springs are fully compressed in assembly by nuts 16, which are released to enable the springs to absorb the load of the furnace body to reduce the stress on the lower parts of the furnace as it heats up.
