Abstract

1285006 Resilient mountings; bearings BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 4 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 12874/71 Headings F2A and F2S An assembly for supporting apparatus, e.g. a compressed gas switch (16, Fig. 3, not shown) in an environment where horizontal shocks, e.g. from earth tremors are experienced, comprises a structure 2 adapted to be firmly anchored in a foundation and containing upper and lower horizontal parallel planar bearing surfaces 11, a support 6 for carrying the apparatus and mounted inside the structure on balls 10 which roll along the bearing surfaces and, by engaging them, prevent vertical movement of the support with respect to the surfaces, and a resilient centering element 13 acting between the structure 2 and the support 6 and urging the support 6 to a rest position (Fig. 2a) in the structure 2, from which it can move temporarily in any direction horizontally against the bias of the element 13 when the foundation experiences a horizontally directed sudden shock movement. The element 13 is a rubber annulus with metal rings (13a, Fig. 1, not shown) on the end surfaces. The bearing surfaces 11 are resiliently biased towards one another by backing rings 12. There is rolling friction between the parts 2 and 6.
