Abstract

1363494 Sintered porous compacts KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO K K 15 July 1971 [17 July 1970 10 Aug 1970] 33390/71 Heading C7D Sintered composite porous material is made by mixing Al, Al base alloy or Mg base alloy with hollow microspheres such as glass, SiO 2 ,Al 2 O 3 , C, Cu, Ni or Fe which retain their form during sintering, and pressing and sintering or hot pressing the mixture. The spheres preferably have a diameter less than 2 mm. and may be activated with a fluxes such as the chlorides fluorides of alkali and alkaline metals or Al or ZnCl 2 . Non metallic spheres may also be chemically or electro-plated with Cu or Ni. The minimum volume ratio of metal to spheres is 15- 85. The metal and spheres may be dry mixed or wet mixed with 2-15% volume of an organic, inorganic or organometallic thermocurable binder such as resins, K 2 SiO 3 , Li 2 SiO 3 , low polymer ethyl silicate, alkyl titanates or Al alkoxides. Alternatively the spheres may be added to the molten metal which forms a coating on the spheres.
