Abstract
1281582 Luminescent screens GTE SYL. VANIA Inc 1 July 1969 [1 July 1968] 33148/69 Heading C4S A phosphor, for use in a discharge tube, is prepared in the form of foraminous porous spheres. These are prepared by mixing solutions or colloidal suspensions of the necessary materials and spraying the solution through a stream of inert gas at a temperature sufficient to vaporize the solvent. The resultant spheres may have a diameter of between 3 and 20 Á, and, when hollow, may have a wall thickness between 0À5 and 8 Á. They are fired and applied to the tube in the form of a paint having an organic binder, e.g. a mixture of xylol-butanol and ethyl cellulose. Examples of phosphors are: titanium and tin activated magnesium borate, α-BaMgP 2 O 7 : Sn, Sb and Mn activated calcium chlorofluorophosphate. The Specification gives starting mixtures and firing temperatures.
