1362488 Knitting machine stop motions UNIVERSAL MASCHINENFABRIK DR RUDOLF SCHIEBER KG 24 Nov 1972 [10 Feb 1972] 54482/72 Heading D1C A knitting machine has a microphone 2 mounted thereon and connected to an electronic threshold circuit so that, when the microphone receives a high amplitude sound signal consequent on a needle break, the circuit produces an output to operate means which disengage the machine drive As shown in a parallel knitting machine the sliding carriage 13 is moved by a chain 14 driven by a chain wheel 15 coupled to a drive mechanism and the microphone 2 is mounted on needle bed support 1 and is disconnected when the carriage is at the ends of its traverse. Microphone 2 is connected via amplifier 6 to a bistable stage 7 in the form of a Schmitt trigger switch having an adjustable threshold value. Stage 7 acts on a relay 8 controlling an electromagnet 9 which acts on a lever 10 to release a spring lever 11 held against spring tension so that rod 12 is moved to release the drive coupling of the carriage. In a cylinder and dial knitting machine, the microphone is mounted under the dial.
