Abstract
584,042. Knitting-machines. SCOTT & CO., Ltd., P., and LAURIE, J. C. Nov. 3, 1944, No. 21602. [Class 74 (ii)] A stop for a thread carrier rod or like reciprocating part of a straight-bar knitting- machine comprises a member coupled to a pneumatic cylinder so that the reciprocating part at the end of its travel is initially gradually retarded to prevent excessive vibration of the machine. As described, a stop for a thread carrier bar comprises a member 8 slidably mounted in an adjustable bushing 9 and connected to an arm 15 pivoted to the carrier stop bracket 2. The end of the arm is connected by links 13 to a piston rod 12 of a piston in a pneumatic cylinder 10, so that when the carrier bar engages the member 8 the piston compresses the air in the cylinder, gradually increasing the retarding force on the carrier. At a predetermined pressure a valve 14 operates, allowing the air to escape and a carrier catch 5 to engage the carrier rod 6 and prevent rebounding. When the carrier rod is driven in the opposite direction a spring 16 returns the stop mechanism to its operative position.
