Abstract

586,927. Knitting-machines. LACEY, S. W. B. May 27, 1944, No. 10326. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] The draw mechanism of a straight-bar machine is actuated by a fluid pressure operated piston B reciprocated by fluid supplied by a pump G through a pressure controlling valve H and switch valve L. In one form the draw mechanism is connected to a slide moving with the piston, and in a modification the piston is connected to a lever pivoted at one end having its other end connected to the slide. Two valves J control the passage of the fluid to the two sides of the piston. Relays K, K' are provided so that when the switch valve L is operated by either of two abutments D', D<2> reciprocating with the piston at the end of the piston stroke, the relay operates only after a predetermined pressure is reached so as to provide a delay in the operation of the valves J sufficient for the knitting of the course drawn on the needles during the previous stroke of the piston. A main cut out N is provided so that the draw mechanism is put out of action during fashioning.
