Abstract

[Also in Division B3] A feeding device for feeding strip or rod stock to an operation position, to be stamped, pressed, 'cut or sawn, of the reciprocating gripper type is controlled by means of valves which include at least two valve chambers and a fluid communication between them in which movement of a push rod in one chamber causes automatically the movement of a push-rod in the other. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 two four-way valves 11 and 16 are linked by a fluid passage 15. A cam 30 associated with a machine tool causes the switch 10 to close activating an electromagnetic valve 33 causing the pushrod of valve 11 to be shifted in the direction 12. Working fluid now flows from line 13a through channel 13b to line 13c and line 15. Line 13c connects to 13d for actuating the reciprocating gripper. Pressure in line 15 causes the push-rod of valve 16 to move in direction 12 linking working fluid in line 18a via channel 18b to line 18c and inlet 18d for a double-acting cylinder which reciprocates the gripper. At the same time inlet 19a of the double-acting cylinder is connected to exhaust 19e via channel 19c of valve 16 and inlet 14a of a stationary gripper is connected to exhaust 14e via channel 14c of valve 11. Thus stock is fed by the feeder. When the cam 30 on further rotation opens switch 10 valve 33 becomes inoperative and pressure fluid in line 20 causes the push rod of valve 11 to move in direction 21. This opens lines 13c and 15 to exhaust 14e via channel 14f. The release of pressure from line 15 causes the push-rod of valve 16 under the action of pressure fluid in line 21a to move in direction 21. Thus the stationary gripper grips the stock, the reciprocating gripper is released and moved back to its initial position.
