Abstract

1432188 Selective printing TELETYPE CORP 20 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 39244/73 Heading B6F [Also in Division F2] Bounce of a type member 17 on return after being struck by a hammer 16 is suppressed by a spring 56 which biases the type member and hammer together when in their respective rest positions but which is released from the type member and hammer on initial striking movement of the hammer 16 so that impact of the type member is unabated. The spring 56 has an end 57 engaging a pin 58 on the hammer body, a portion which passes through a fixed pivot 64, and a loop portion 63 which engages the type member 17. The hammer 16 pivots about a shaft 32 under bias of a coil spring (36, Fig. 2, not shown) coaxial with the shaft 32 when a holding arm 39 is displaced upwardly. As the hammer pivots clockwise, the spring 56 ceases to urge the hammer and type member together until both return to their rest positions.
