Abstract

1520916 Selective printing INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 26 Sept 1975 [27 Sept 1974] 39586/75 Heading B6F A print head includes at least one hammer mechanism having a hammer 41 supported only by a blade spring 45 and movable in opposite directions from a central rest position (in which the spring is not flexed) under the influence of electromagnets 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. In operation the electromagnet 3<SP>1</SP> is initially energized so that the hammer 41 is retracted and spring 45 flexed, even when electromagnet 3 is energized subsequently. If then the current in electromagnet 3<SP>1</SP> is interrupted briefly the hammer 41 moves quickly upwards (as viewed) to effect printing. Subsequent de-energization of electromagnet 3 causes the hammer to retract. A print member 44 on the hammer may be a bar code element.
