Abstract

1,203,395. Selective printers. SCM CORP. 10 April, 1968 [24 April, 1967], No. 17419/68. Heading B6F. [Also in Divisions H1 and H3] A selective printer, having a continuously rotating carrier 19 provided with an array of peripherally and axially spaced character scribing -elements 19<SP>1</SP>, is furnished with a travelling hammer carriage 18, which supports an electromagnetically operated printing hammer 14, whose period of contact with the elements 19<SP>1</SP> for scribing of the vertical strokes of characters is longer than that required for scribing of the horizontal strokes. The hammer 14 is controlled by energization of the electromagnetic coil 11, which receives a heavy current pulse for restoration of the hammer and subsequently a lighter current pulse for holding the hammer in its inoperative position against the bias of an impression spring 20. The characters are formed by a series of dots.
