Abstract

1340839 Selective printing PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Nov 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 55338/72 Heading B6F Hammer impression.-The energy of a firing spring 3 is transmitted to a hammer 1 via a pawl 5, which only engages after the hammer is held in the locked position by an electromagnetically released permanent magnet 2. This enables the firing spring 3 to be tensioned after the hammer is cocked. Example 1, Fig. 1.-The force of spring 3 is exerted on the lower end of pivoted hammer 1 via a driving lever 4 pivoted at the hammer pivot M, and via the hook of pawl 5 pivoted to the lever 4. When the hammer is released, it pivots about M under the force of the spring 3, and when the lever 4 strikes stop 10, the hammer continues under its own momentum to strike type cylinder 8. This is possible, since the pawl 5 rotates about its pivot thereby disengaging from the lower end of the hammer 1 due to the eccentric weight 11. A weak spring 15 returns the pawl 5 to its initial position, and a bail 13 fixed to a continuously rotating disc 14 engages the lever 4 to re-tension the spring 3. Example 2 (Figs. 2 and 3).-The hammer is supported on parallel leaf-springs (17, 18), and a further leaf-sping (19) acts as the firing spring, transmitting its force via a pawl (20) pivoted to the hammer body (16). The pawl rotates out of the path of the leaf-spring (19), due to eccentric weight (21), when the hammer impacts the typecylinder. This allows the hammer to rebound and be relatched by the permanent magnet.
