Abstract

1,128,687. Movie camera gun. MATTEL Inc. 27 June, 1966 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 28713/66. Heading A6S. The toy comprises a housing simulating a hand-type movie camera and a gun-barrel telescopically mounted within the housing and hidden therein. Figure 1 shows a part sectional view of the toy gun. Figure 2 shows the toy simulating a movie-camera. With reference to Figure 2, the telescopic gun barrels 20, 28 are retained within housing 12 by a locking member 40, the lower end of which is connected to the trigger 16. A predetermined movement of this trigger will enable the barrels to fully extend. The cap firing mechanism is actuated by trigger 16, the caps being detonated by being struck by the hammer 56 on the anvil 74. A single action of the trigger will thus produce a single detonation. The lug 92 of the hammer 56 can engage with the equally spaced teeth 94 of the star wheel 96. This wheel is mounted on a shaft together with an output drum 100, the latter part of a "Neg'ator" spring driving means see Figure 8. With reference to Figure 8, the reversibly bent spring 108 is retained on an output drum 100 only so long as counter clockwise rotation of this drum is prevented by the locking lever 110. This lever is operated by a connection to the trigger 16, thus allowing the drum 108 to rotate, causing a repetition of the firing movement of the hammer 56 and mechanism. The spring now on drum 104 may be rewound on to the drum 100. The governor member 132, the end 140, 142 of which engage with the teeth 94 thus serving to impart an even intermittent rotation to the star wheel, may be locked in position by the locking plate 150 thus preventing rapid firing but permitting single firing. When unlocked, and with the trigger so positioned that the lug 144 is adjacent to the recess 148 and hence not engaging the arm 136, the output drum and star wheel are free to rotate as described above. When oscillating, the weighted and enlarged end 138 of the arm 136 may alternately engage opposite sides of the handle 14 thus producing a sound simulating rapid firing.
