Abstract

1361518 Acrylic ester coatings NIPPON OIL SEAL INDUSTRY CO Ltd 5 July 1972 [5 July 1971] 31535/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Photocurable inks, paints or varnishes comprise (a) an esterification product of an epoxy resin and acrylic or methacrylic acid, (b) an ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid with a monohydric or polyhydric alcohol and (c) a photopolymerisation initiator. Component (a) is suitably derived from 1.33 to 2.0 gram equivalents of epoxy resin per gram equivalent of (meth) acrylic acid. Esters (b) specified are the (meth) acrylates of methyl, ethyl, nbutyl, n-octyl or 2-ethylhexyl alcohol, the di(meth)acrylates of ethylene, diethylene, triethylene or tetraethylene glycol, and the tri(meth)acrylates of trimethylolpropane or triethylolpropane. The initiator (c) may be, for example, benzophenone, acetophenone, triphenylphosphine, 2-ethylanthraquinone. 2-tertbutylanthraquinone, furoin, benzoin, benzoin methyl ether or benzoin ethyl ether. The compositions may optionally include a colouring agent, e.g. copper phthalocyanine, Victoria blue, methylene blue, hansa yellow, carmine lake or carbon black. In Examples the compositions are coated and photo-cured on sheets of copper or paper.
