Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a photocurable composition useful as photocurable inks, coatings, molding compounds, ets. and curable by light in a short time, by compounding a polyester (meth) acrylate of biphenyltetracarboxylic acid (anhydride) with a photopolymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: A (meth)acrylate having a hydroxyl group, e.g. mono(meth)- acrylate of diethylene glycol, etc., is reacted with biphenyl-tetracarboxylic acid (anhydride) preferably in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor, e.g. air, etc., and a tertiary amine catalyst to give a polyester (meth)acrylate II having substituents R1WR4 expressed by the formula I (R is methyl, etc.; n is 1W10), preferably an acid value of 10W180, a hydroxyl value of 0W100 and a rotational viscosity of 300W100,000cp at 30°C. 100 Parts by weight of the polyester (meth)acrylate is compounded with preferably 1W10 parts by weight of a photo-polymerization initiator, e.g. benzoin, etc., to give a photo-curable composition.
