Abstract

1359370 Suspended ceiling framework connectors ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS INC 25 Aug 1971 [14 Jan 1971] 39940/71 Heading E1W A stamped metal connector 10 for channel shaped suspended ceiling framework elements 30 comprises at least two arms 14, 16, 18, 20 radiating from a central plate 12. Means 28 by which the connector is suspended is pivotable so as to lie parallel with the plate 12 to facilitate stacking with similar connectors. The arms have upstanding flanges along opposite edges one of which extends only part of the way along the arm from the free end. Each flange has a punched out abutment 40. Each arm telescopes into a channel framing element 30, the upstanding flanges engaging under a down turned lip 36. The abutments 40 engage in apertures 38 in the sides of the elements 30 and are formed with camming surfaces which ride out of the apertures 38 if the elements 30 expand in a fire. A cover may be secured by a central screw to the underside of the connector 10 in the completed framework to conceal the joint.
