Abstract

1359000 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 23 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 29422/71 Heading G3P [Also in Divisions F2 and G1] Apparatus for maintaining the level of a liquefied gas, e.g. nitrogen, in a container 1 between upper and lower limits, the liquefied gas being supplied through siphon 2 from a storage container 3, has two vapour pressure bulbs 6, 7 positioned at the limits, each bulb containing a medium, e.g. nitrogen, under pressure which condenses at the temperature of the liquefied gas, the filling pressure of bulb 7 being for example seven atmospheres and that of bulb 6 four atmospheres, the pressure differential between bulbs 6 and 7 operating a first control valve 8 and, via a duct 19, a second control valve 21 by which the storage container 3 can be communicated either with a pressure vessel 31 or with a vapour outlet 5. If the level falls below bulb 7, excess pressure in duct 17 displaces piston member 9 upwards (as viewed in Fig.1) and, via duct 19, displaces piston member 22 to the left thus placing the vapour space of container 3 in communication with pressure vessel 31 such that liquefied gas is siphoned into container 1. When the level reaches bulb 7, the vapour therein condenses, but compression spring 20 shuts member 9 against seating 18 quickly so that there is enough residual pressure in duct 19 to keep piston member 22 to the left. When the level reaches bulb 6 the vapour therein condenses and spring 20 acts to open valve 8, and the vapour trapped in duct 19 condenses. Spring 33 then moves piston member 22 to the right thereby communicating container 3 with vapour outlet 5 so that no more liquid is siphoned into container 1. Only when the level again falls below bulb 7 will pressure build up in duct 19 to move piston member 22 to the left to recommence the cycle. To provide better sealing and particularly to avoid communication of pressure vessel 31 with outlet 5 during motion of the piston member 22, the members 9, 22 may be provided with O-ring seals as in Figs.2-5 (not shown), and in this case the pressure media may act directly on the faces of the piston members.
