Abstract

1300685 Valves PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970] 26175/71 Heading F2V A rotatable disc distributing valve, for use in evacuating and then filling with halogencontaining gas, halogen lamp or tube envelopes 31, comprises stationary and rotatable ported plates 2, 3 respectively, having engaging flat surfaces. The surfaces are sealed firstly by one or more lubricant grooves 32 in the stationary plate, and secondly by one or more additional grooves 33 in this plate, each of the grooves 33 being supplied at one point by inert gas from a pressurized source or container 35, the gas being exhausted from another point in the groove to a space or container 38 at lower pressure. As shown, gas flow to the container 38 is controlled by a valve 37. The stationary plate is mounted on a centering pin 8, biased by springs 11, and located against rotation by lugs 12 engaged in angle plates 14 fixed to a mounting plate 5. The rotatable plate is centered by screws 28 and connected through pipes 30 to a frame 18 ,19, 22, 23 which rotates in ball bearings 24 relative to the mounting plate 5. The plates have ten evenly spaced ports 29, 15, those of the stationary plate communicating with vacuum pumps.
