Abstract

1358908 Keyboards INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 29 Oct 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 50427/71 Heading G4H [Also in Division H1] Sequential contact is made to members A-F, Fig. 1, of a group of segment shaped contacts by a resilient conductive diaphragm 16, Fig. 1, 651, Fig. 6, deflectable into sequential engagement with the contacts of the contact group through an aperture U in a non-conductive separator 652 upon depression of a push-button 640. The diaphragm is associated with a number of respective buttons and contact groups, (all Fig. 1), the assembly forming a keyboard. A printed circuit board carries the contacts and appropriate interconnections to other contacts and an output terminal. Each sector is arranged a different distance from the centre of the group and a distributer pad 650 causes a pressure increase applied by the activator 646 to radially increase the area of contact of the diaphragm thus sequentially contacting the segments. A stop ring 645 limits travel of the button. Means for detecting multiple keying and whether a key is fully depressed may be provided by additionl segments and such segments may also operate a relay to actuate a battery (see also Specification 1,337,083.
