Abstract

1358566 Migration imaging XEROX CORP 6 July 1971 [13 July 1970] 31547/71 Heading G2H In an imaging method wherein imaging particles migrate through a softened layer, heat-softening of the layer is effected by contact at elevated temperature with a molten material which material may be the same as or different from the softenable material. Contact may be by immersion or coating. The imaging material may initially be dispersed in the softenable layer or in a layer adjacent thereto. The imagewise migration force may be provided by an imagewise electrostatic charge or electric or magnetic field; and may be applied before, during or after softening. The particles may migrate to a substrate; and the softened layer may be removed, a fixing film of solidified molten material remaining. A layer of migration material 0À01-2À0 microns thick may be in contact with a softenable layer 0À5-16 microns thick. Migration materials (photo-conductive and non-photoconductive) and softenable and molten materials (synthetic resins and waxes) are specified.
