Abstract
1358537 Break-up spray nozzle R T MACGUIRE-COOPER 20 Aug 1971 [10 June 1970 7 July 1970 17 Aug 1970] 28028/70 32816/70 and 39601/70 Heading B2F A stream of liquid is mechanically broken up into a spray by a nozzle having a cavity with an extension in the form of a passage of small cross-section having a blind end and an orifice between the ends of the passage opening to the exterior of the nozzle. In one embodiment (Fig. 2) injection moulded nozzle body 1 is formed with an inlet cavity 4 in which valve stem 2 having feed passage 3 is inserted. A fine bore groove 5 is formed in the wall of cavity 4 and sealed along most of its edges by engagement between nozzle body 1 and stem 2. The external face of the nozzle has a recess 8 into which opens orifice 9 in the form of a wedge-shaped slot, the upper face 11 of which determines the direction of the fan-shaped spray produced. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) grooves are formed in the valve stem wall rather than the cavity wall so that by relative rotation of the nozzle body and the valve stem different spray characteristics may be obtained.
